About

The Engineering and Applied Science (EAS) Communication’s Office is a recharge center that has been supporting the research and educational efforts of the EAS Division, Caltech, and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) since 1999. A team of three supports the center. The members of the team are Vicki Chiu, Briana Ticehurst, and Benjamin Peltz.

In a typical year, the EAS Communications Office supports over 50 clients on more than 160 projects. The primary objective of our team is to understand the needs of our clients and support them in clearly communicating their message to their selected audiences. This is accomplished through the creation of custom research and educational websites, simple yet creative graphic design, dynamic application development, engaging photography, and communications support for events. Some of the groups we support are the President’s Events Office, Student Affairs, Development and Institute Relations, Financial Services, and all of the Caltech academic divisions. Examples of applications developed by our team include: Caltech commencement registration, Caltech student clubs registration, executive education course registration, faculty and postdoc searches, graduate admissions visit scheduler, as well as research conference registration and online payment.

In addition, our team designs and produces a variety of print publications for Caltech faculty, students, and alumni. These include the award-winning publication ENGenious and the Caltech Y Annual Report. We support the communication needs of events through marketing materials, signage, and photography. Some of the events supported by our office include: industry panels, retreats, alumni gatherings, and centennials.

The impact of our work can be measured by the simplicity and creativity of our designs, the ease of the user experience, and the relationships we maintain with faculty, staff, and students throughout Caltech and JPL.
